 Use of rubbing alcohol

How is rubbing alcohol used to remove ink stains from a carpet?

Below are some of the steps to follow when using rubbing alcohol to remove ink stains from your carpet.

how to get ink out of carpet

  • Immediately after the ink spills on your carpet pick rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth
  • Wet one of the corners of the cloth with rubbing alcohol and start blotting the stain
  • Dab the stain gently; the ink will be absorbed to the cloth as you continue dabbing
  • Start working from the edges of the stain as you work towards the center of the stain to prevent the stain from spreading to a larger stain on the carpet
  • Repeatedly dap the wet cloth over the ink stain and occasional wet the fabric with more alcohol. Let the alcohol sit on the carpet for about 30 minutes
  • To avoid damaging the carpet, mix warm water with vinegar in the ratio of 1:16 and rinse the area. If the stain is removed, rinse the part with clean water and allow it to dry
  • If the stain is not completely clean, apply shaving cream until all the stained part is covered. Wait for 15 minutes and remove the shaving cream then rinse with the water-vinegar mixture. The stain should go away immediately and then rinse the area with clean water and dry it.

Use of lubricant

You can use either Triflow or WD-40 lubricants. However, WD-40 is the most preferred lubricant when it comes to cleaning ink stains on your carpet. How is
this method used?

  • Test a small area of the carpet by spraying the lubricant before you start cleaning the stain, from this test you will know if the lubricant can permanently stain your carpet or not
  • If the lubricant does not stain your carpet, spray the lubricant on the stain
  • Using warm soapy water, wipe the stain to remove the lubricant and the stain from the carpet
  • Use warm and clean water to remove the soap and put more emphasis on the edges of the stain as that is the easiest part to forget
  • Allow the carpet to dry and pass your fingers on it to return it to its normal texture

Use of ammonia, detergent and vinegar solution

This method involves so much spraying; if you don’t have spraying bottle, you can improvise one from an old hairspray bottle or a body spray bottle.
Which are the steps followed in this method?

  • Mix one cup of water with one teaspoon of dish-washing detergent
  • Spray the solution generously on the stain
  • Use a clean white cloth to blot the stain and avoid scrubbing the stain
  • Dab the stain gently in an up-and-down motion
  • Mix one teaspoon of ammonia with a half-filled cup of water
  • Spray the solution on the stain and use a different cloth to blot the stain
  • Prepare a solution of vinegar and water by adding equal parts of the two solutions then spray the solution on the stain and blot it again using a different cloth. Huh? The stain mysteriously disappears from the carpet
  • Respray the detergent solution to remove any ammonia traces, and then rinse it with clean water to remove all the detergent, vinegar and ammonia and let the carpet dry. If after some time the area feels stiff rinse it again with clean water
  • Using the vacuum go over the carpet several times to restore its natural texture
